How It All Got Started
Dahlia Legacy Project
Commonly referred to as “DLP”
This project is a Federation supported effort which was launched this past year.
It is very much in its infancy state, but we have high hopes for what it can became!
The vision is to create an archival rich database of our PNW Dahlia history. We have the most concentration of Dahlia hybridizers and leaders in the world! And need to ensure we capture this history and resources and convert them into accessible content for all to learn from.
We are working to build with the help of guided organized volunteer support from ALL federation dahlia club members a rich online depository of resources about the leaders in the dahlia hybridizing world, sharing their stories and best practices and articles they have written and that have been written on them.
With a search feature anyone should be able to go to the Dahlia Legacy Project Wiki site and find the info they are looking for on dahlias, whether it is digging, dividing, storing, cutting, showing –
We are working on uploading all the Dahlias of Today editions, so they are electronically available at your fingertips.
The leadership group for this project includes Colin Walker, Linda Holmes Cook, Alli Richards with Snohomish, Paul from Kitsap, Betty who is in BC, Pete with Washington State and me.
Of course, this project is only as good as the efforts contributed to it.
We have been encouraging clubs to use this project as an engagement opportunity for members and we have had some success within PSDA with that – Roger, Kathy and Art have contributed already!
There are literally a zillion ways to contribute to the DLP and it is a great way to learn more about Dahlias and the key individuals who have really advanced successful growing methods and varieties of dahlias. We have projects that you can do from home on your own as well as opportunities to interview legends in the dahlia world.
The DLP is also structured to allow for individuals to use these projects as part of their judging project to advance in the judging program.
If you would like to get involved or learn more, please let me know! We can really use your help.
